The Ashburnham Westminster Foundation for Academic Excellence held a Mother's Day Brunch and Artisans Fair on Mother's Day, May 9th. More than 200 people enjoyed the brunch and fair, which had a great assortment of Mother's Day gifts available.

The Foundation's mission is to enhance and extend education in the public schools of Ashburnham and Westminster through innovative teaching programs and materials. A new round of grants for up to $1,000 each is currently underway. These have been dubbed "Super-Z" Grants in honor of outgoing superintendent, Dr. Michael Zapantis.

The Artisans Fair showcased artwork and crafted goods from many talented artists. and crafters The Mother's Day buffet brunch was provided by Chartwells, and included many delectable choices that were appealing to both children and adults, including a dessert extravaganza similar to one they provided at the "Night at the Museum" event sponsored by AWFAE last November.

“Super Z Grants”

The AWFAE Grant Committee will be accepting grant applications this spring. This grant cycle is dedicated to Dr. Michael Zapantis who was instrumental in bringing community members together to create this Foundation. As a result of his support and dedication, the Foundation has grown from an idea to a thriving organization that celebrates and encourages educators who develop projects and curriculum that challenge and enhance student learning experiences. The AWFAE thanks Dr. Zapantis for his years of service to the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District and wishes him continued success as he enters retirement.

Goals of the AWFAE Grant Program
To encourage collaboration among teachers, administrators, parents and community groups to benefit the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District.

To support creative and innovative curricular development that is beyond the scope of the typical school budget. Creative ideas can be ones that reflect alternative approaches to typical instruction.
