Spring Grant Cycle (March-April 2010)
“Super Z Grants”

The AWFAE Grant Committee will be accepting grant applications this spring. This grant cycle is dedicated to Dr. Michael Zapantis who was instrumental in bringing community members together to create this Foundation. As a result of his support and dedication, the Foundation has grown from an idea to a thriving organization that celebrates and encourages educators who develop projects and curriculum that challenge and enhance student learning experiences. The AWFAE thanks Dr. Zapantis for his years of service to the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District and wishes him continued success as he enters retirement.

“Super Z” grant application forms, information on the review process, and the grant committee’s scoring rubric will be sent electronically to each building principal and AWRSD faculty and staff. Once completed they can be emailed to Grant Committee Chairperson Michael Sunderland at msunderland812@msn.com or sent to the Ashburnham-Westminster Foundation for Academic Excellence at 11 Oakmont Dr., Ashburnham, MA 01430.

The Grant Committee will consider grants requests up to $1,000 in this grant cycle.

The Grant Committee will meet several times to discuss each application. Each member of the committee will review the applications and complete the scoring rubric. The Grant Committee makes recommendations based on the merits of each proposal and the ability of the AWFAE to fund them.

Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2010. The Committee will award grants in June, 2010. Applicants will be notified by email of decisions following Grant Committee recommendations and Board of Directors’ approval. Successful projects must be implemented during the 2010-2011 academic year.

Once the project is completed, grant awardees will be required to complete an evaluation form. These forms will be emailed to successful applicants. Please send the completed evaluation form to the address listed above.

For more information, please contact the Foundation's Grant Committee.

Goals of the AWFAE Grant Program

To encourage collaboration among teachers, administrators, parents and community groups to benefit the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District.

To support creative and innovative curricular development that is beyond the scope of the typical school budget. Creative ideas can be ones that reflect alternative approaches to typical instruction.

AWFAE grants are not intended to replace or relieve existing responsibility for public funding of programs for the public school system, nor are they intended to substitute for normal budget growth and maintenance.
