Peg Romano and Cathy McDonald, Co-Chairs The Events Committee plans and manages the Foundation’s social events. Our Foundation hosts two annual events, an adult-oriented event in the fall, and a family-friendly event in the spring. New volunteers are always welcome. Send us an email to get involved! Upcoming EventsHow Children Learn MathematicsEver been stressed helping your kids (of all ages) with their math homework? FunFlicks will present the movie Despicable Me. This event will be held on Friday, June 21 at Oakmont Regional High School. Gate opens at 7:30pm. Movie starts at approximately 8:30pm. The cost is $10 per carload (please do not drop off unattended children). With less than a handful of drive-in movie theaters remaining in Massachusetts (there were 94 of them in the 1950s), it's likely that the Let's Get This Summer Started Outdoor Movie Night at Oakmont is the closest the youth of Ashburnham and Westminster have ever been to the drive-ins! At just $10 per carload, this is an inexpensive night out that is sure to create fun family memories! FunFlicks, a company with locations in 25 states, will present the movie on their 26' inflatable movie screen with a premium sound system, so our outdoor movie presentation will be clear, intense and exciting! Foundation board members and volunteers will be working in the Booster Club Grill Shack with pizza, popcorn, ice cream and glow-in-the-dark novelties for sale. Timed to coincide with the end of the school year, this evening will be a fun way to start the summer and get together with friends before vacation season begins. Please RSVP to both of these events so that your friends and neighbors can join in on our fun and informative programs. Our goal is to enhance each student’s capacity for success and fulfillment in school, in the community, and in life. The Foundation provides private financial support for exemplary educational projects and programs that benefit public school educators and students in the two communities. It is governed by a volunteer group of dedicated citizens from Ashburnham and Westminster committed to fostering the educational experiences of district students. “During the 2009-2012 school years, the Foundation awarded almost $30,000 in grants to teachers in the district thanks to the generous donations of community members and their support for its annual fall event,” said Mike Sunderland, Vice-President and Chairperson of the Grant Committee.
